Customer Story: Youssef Akif, IT Procurement Specialist at Eurafric Information

Connection delays were disrupting work at Eurafric Information. For a Moroccan IT services company with 350 engineers supporting financial and banking systems, database performance isn’t negotiable.

Youssef Akif, IT Procurement Specialist, shares how his team found a more reliable solution in DBeaver Enterprise. You’ll see how faster connections, color-coded connection types, and a more intuitive interface helped their developers and administrators work more efficiently.

What challenges did you face before working with DBeaver, and why did you choose DBeaver Enterprise as your solution?

We faced several challenges with our previous tools. Connection delays and inconsistent responsiveness slowed down our workflow, and we lacked the advanced features our developers and database administrators needed daily, such as efficient object management, integrated monitoring, and seamless navigation across schemas.

Our Urbanization team looked for a solution that could address these limitations and support our growing workload. We needed broad database compatibility, strong SQL and PL/SQL capabilities, and an interface that would streamline both development and administrative tasks. DBeaver Enterprise met these requirements and provided the stability we were looking for to enhance our operational efficiency.

What improvements did you notice after working with DBeaver Enterprise?

We noticed improvements right away. Connection performance became significantly faster and more stable. The heartbeat mechanism keeps connections active during inactivity, which eliminates the frequent reconnections we used to deal with. That alone made our work smoother and more productive.

The color-coding system for environments made a big difference, too. We can visually distinguish Production, Test, and Development through color schemes thanks to the Connection Types. It reduces operational risks when switching between environments or executing sensitive operations. That clarity matters when precision is essential.

The interface is also more intuitive and responsive. Navigating through schemas, exploring tables, reviewing object structures, and executing scripts feels more fluid. Query execution panels, result sets, and object editors are better organized, making daily operations quicker and more transparent.

What are the most common use cases for your team?

We use DBeaver Enterprise for a wide range of daily activities. SQL and PL/SQL scripting is one of our primary uses. We write, execute, debug, and maintain scripts essential to our applications and processes. We also handle the full lifecycle management of database objects: creating new structures, updating existing ones, and removing outdated elements. This includes tables, views, indexes, packages, functions, procedures, triggers, and scheduled jobs.

Monitoring application behavior is another key use case. We view active browser sessions and track connections to identify performance issues, user activity, and system load. This visibility helps us troubleshoot problems quickly and maintain better service continuity.

Query optimization is equally important. We examine execution plans, evaluate performance, and fine-tune SQL queries to improve response times and enhance the stability of our applications. DBeaver Enterprise has become fully integrated into our development, monitoring, and optimization routines.

What features do you like/use the most?

While no single feature stands out as the primary one, what our team values most is the overall coherence and reliability of DBeaver’s core functionalities. The SQL Editor, object browser, and database navigation tools form a stable and unified workspace that supports all our essential tasks. The interface is structured, predictable, and responsive, which makes it easier for developers and administrators to work efficiently.

We appreciate the balance between simplicity and capability. DBeaver Enterprise provides the power needed for advanced tasks while keeping the learning curve relatively low. We primarily use the tool for core operations like scripting, object management, and monitoring. The consistency and reliability of these features make a real difference in our daily workflow.

What would you like to see improved in DBeaver Enterprise?

One aspect that can be slightly challenging is how the tool handles edits to procedures or packages. When I try to save changes directly in edit mode, the content moves to a new SQL sheet for execution instead of allowing an inline save. I understand this behavior from a technical standpoint, but it does disrupt the workflow a bit. It requires switching contexts and manually executing the script each time. Addressing this would make the experience smoother and more intuitive.

Key Takeaways

Eurafric Information’s experience shows what happens when you move from tools that slow you down to one built for enterprise needs. Stable connections meant less downtime and fewer interruptions, keeping work flowing smoothly. Color-coded connection types reduced the risk of costly mistakes when switching between Production, Test, and Development environments. The intuitive interface made daily tasks like scripting, object management, and query optimization more fluid.

Feedback from users like Youssef helps shape future improvements to DBeaver Enterprise. When experienced teams share their workflows, it benefits everyone using the SQL Editor and other core features.
