Glossary

Cloud Explorer

A tool for connecting to databases hosted in AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure. Database endpoints are read directly from each cloud provider, so users don't need to configure every connection manually. It supports provider-specific authentication, including single sign-on (SSO). Learn more for web client and desktop client

Cloud Storage

A file manager for opening and managing files in cloud object storage. Amazon S3 and Google Cloud Storage are available in both clients, and Azure Blob Storage is also available in the desktop client. Learn more for web client and desktop client

Composite task

A sequence of existing, newly created, or composite tasks that run together. Learn more

Connection

A saved database connection configuration, also called a datasource, with a driver, host, port, database, authentication settings, and optional network settings. Learn more for web client and desktop client

Connection type

A named set of settings assigned to a connection. For example, Test can identify staging databases, while Production can identify live databases. It controls transaction mode and background color. The desktop client can also require SQL execution confirmations and close idle transactions and connections. Learn more for web client and desktop client

Connections

A hierarchical tree of database connections and database objects. Users can filter, group, open, and manage schemas, tables, and other objects in both clients. Learn more for web client and desktop client

Data Editor

A data grid for viewing and editing data from database tables, other database objects, and query results. It includes filtering and sorting controls, alternative layouts, and panels for inspecting values and related information in both clients. Learn more for web client and desktop client

Database Object Editor

A tabbed editor for inspecting and managing database objects in the desktop and web clients. Available tabs depend on the client and object support. Learn more for web client and desktop client

Datasource

A saved database connection configuration, also called a connection, with a driver, host, port, database, authentication settings, and optional network settings. Learn more for web client and desktop client

Dataset

A saved query result set presented as a data grid. Administrators, Developers, and Managers can create datasets for users with Editor or Viewer roles, and changes are synchronized between the web and desktop clients. Learn more

DBeaver Database Tunnel

A transport channel that forwards database traffic between the desktop client and a database through the Team Edition server. The desktop machine doesn't need direct network access to the database. Learn more

Desktop client

The locally installed Team Edition application for advanced database work. It requires a deployed Team Edition server, connects to that central server, and can access databases directly or through DBeaver Database Tunnel. Learn more

Easy Configuration

The initial browser-based setup wizard for a newly deployed Team Edition server. Learn more

ERD

An entity relationship diagram that visualizes database structure and table relationships in the web and desktop clients.

Private connection

A connection in a private project. It is visible only to the project owner. Learn more

Private project

A project that only its owner can access. It can contain connections, scripts, tasks, diagrams, bookmarks, and datasets. Learn more

Project

A group of shared database connections, tasks, SQL scripts, diagrams, datasets, and bookmarks. Administrators manage project access for users and teams. Learn more

Properties Editor

The Properties tab of the Database Object Editor. In both clients, it lets users view and change supported properties of a selected database item, including table column definitions where supported. Database-specific tabs and controls let users manage supported sub-entities. Learn more for web client and desktop client

Query Manager

A list of executed queries and their details. In the web client, administrators and team supervisors can monitor queries executed from the web client; the desktop client shows SQL queries executed in the application, including execution time, duration, affected rows, and errors. Learn more for web client and desktop client

Resource Manager

A panel for creating and managing SQL scripts stored in the server file system and organized by Private or Shared project. Learn more

Role

A predefined access level assigned to a user. Team Edition provides Administrator, Developer, Manager, Editor, and Viewer roles, each with a defined set of permissions. Learn more

Secret Management

External secret managers that store connection credentials outside Team Edition. The clients retrieve the credentials at runtime, and each client has its own secret manager configuration. Learn more for web client and desktop client

Shared connection

A connection in a shared project that is available to multiple users or teams. Administrators manage access through the project. Learn more

Shared project

A project that authorized users and teams can access. They can share connections, tasks, SQL scripts, diagrams, datasets, and bookmarks. Administrators manage access to the project. Learn more

SQL Editor

An editor for writing, running, saving, and reusing SQL queries and scripts. Query results open in Data Editor tabs. It is available in both the web and desktop clients. Learn more for web client and desktop client

Task

A database operation saved with its settings so users can run it again. Tasks automate routine actions such as data transfer, data import, or data export. Learn more

Task Scheduler

A schedule for running saved tasks automatically at specified times or intervals. The tasks run on the server. Learn more

Team

A group of users used to manage access and permissions. Teams control project access, shared credentials, and Data Editor and SQL Editor actions. Teams can also map users automatically from external identity providers. Learn more

User

An account used to sign in. Users can be created locally or provisioned through an external identity provider. Each user has a role and can receive project access and permissions through team membership. Learn more

Web client

The browser-based Team Edition client for database access, initial setup, and centralized administration. It doesn't require a local installation. Learn more

Workspace

The location where configuration and other application files are stored. Each server service stores its files in a separate container, and the desktop client uses team-workspace under DBeaverData. Learn more for web client and desktop client
