Glossary

Cloud Explorer

A tool for connecting to databases hosted on AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure. Database endpoints are read directly from each cloud provider, so users don't need to configure every connection manually. Learn more

Cloud Storage

A file manager for opening and managing files in cloud object storage. It supports Amazon S3, Google Cloud Storage, and Azure Blob Storage. Learn more

Composite task

A sequence of existing, newly created, or composite tasks that run together. Learn more

Connection

A saved database connection configuration, also called a datasource, with a driver, host, port, database, authentication settings, and optional network settings. Learn more

Connection type

A named set of settings that distinguishes database environments. For example, Test can represent staging, while Production represents live databases and can use safeguards such as manual commits and confirmations. It also controls automatic cleanup of idle transactions and connections, and background color. Learn more

Connections

A hierarchical tree of database connections and database objects. It includes schemas, tables, and other objects that users can open and manage. Learn more

Data Editor

A data grid for viewing and editing data from database tables, other database objects, and query results. It includes filtering and sorting controls, alternative layouts, and panels for inspecting values and related information. Learn more

Database Object Editor

A multi-tab editor for inspecting and managing database objects, including Properties, Data, and Diagram tabs. Learn more

Datasource

A database connection definition, also called a connection. It contains the driver, connection parameters, authentication settings, and network settings. Learn more

Driver Manager

A catalog of database drivers and their libraries, connection URL templates, and properties. Users can add, copy, edit, hide, or delete drivers. Learn more

ERD

An entity relationship diagram that visualizes database structure and table relationships. Learn more

Master password

A password used to encrypt credentials and sensitive data in DBeaver secure storage. Learn more

Network profile

Saved SSH, proxy, Kubernetes, or AWS SSM settings that can be reused by multiple connections. A profile can be available globally or limited to one project. Learn more

Project

A group of database connections, scripts, diagrams, and other related files. Learn more

Properties Editor

The Properties tab of the Database Object Editor. It lets users view and change supported properties of a selected database item, including table column definitions where supported. Database-specific tabs and controls let users manage supported sub-entities. Learn more

Query Manager

A list of executed queries and their details. The details include execution time, duration, affected rows, and errors. Learn more

Session Manager

A list of active database sessions with controls for searching and terminating them when supported by the database. Some databases also support disconnecting sessions. Learn more

SQL Editor

An editor for writing, running, saving, and reusing SQL queries and scripts. Query results open in Data Editor tabs. Learn more

Task

A database operation saved with its settings so users can run it again. Tasks automate routine actions such as data transfer, data import, or data export. Learn more

Task Scheduler

A schedule for running saved tasks automatically at specified times or intervals. Learn more

Virtual column

A calculated column defined in DBeaver with an expression. Its value appears in query results without changing the underlying database schema. Learn more

Virtual key

A set of columns defined in DBeaver to identify rows in a table that has no physical primary key or unique index. Learn more

Visual Query Builder

A graphical editor for creating SQL queries without writing SQL. Users add tables and configure columns, joins, filters, and sorting, and DBeaver converts the visual configuration into SQL. Learn more

Workspace

The location where configuration and other application files are stored. It contains connections, settings, scripts, diagrams, and other local data. By default, DBeaver uses workspace6 inside DBeaverData. Learn more
